2. Star Trek: First Contact (Complete Motion Picture Score)

Description

April 2nd 2012 GNP Crescendo Records, longtime home of new and classic Star Trek soundtracks, releases a long-sought limited-edition collector s CD of Star Trek: First Contact (1996) featuring the complete score by Jerry Goldsmith (with additional music by Joel Goldsmith), newly remastered by recording engineer Bruce Botnick. Star Trek: First Contact (1996) was the most popular feature film starring the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation. When the Borg travel through time into Earth s past, Picard and his crew must prevent them from altering a pivotal moment in human history mankind s first contact with an alien race (the peaceful Vulcans). First Contact marked the much-anticipated return of beloved composer Jerry Goldsmith to the franchise. Goldsmith s march from Star Trek: The Motion Picture (reused as the main title theme for The Next Generation) is instantly identifiable, and Goldsmith s extraordinary gift for melody, thrilling orchestration and musical storytelling has made him the signature composer for Gene Roddenberry s vision. For First Contact, schedule constraints led Goldsmith to recruit another composer to write additional music his son Joel. The resulting score by both men combines exciting themes from Goldsmith s previous efforts with vital new material, including a first contact theme (nobly sounded by French horn) and an ominous motive for the Borg. GNP Crescendo released the original soundtrack album to Star Trek: First Contact in 1996, featuring 45 minutes of score highlights. Since then, fans have clamored for both Goldsmiths complete work particularly the thrilling Flight of the Phoenix. This expanded release (nearly 80 minutes) presents exactly that including three alternate tracks in sterling sound quality, mastered by Jerry Goldsmith s longtime recording engineer, Bruce Botnick. The accompanying 16-page booklet includes informative notes by Jeff Bond and John Takis and is lavishly illustrated with film stills. Star Trek: First Contact Complete Motion Picture Score (GNPD 8079) is available solely as a physical CD from GNP Crescendo Records

LIMITED EDITION OF 1000 UNITS

FreeClyde Records, in association with BuySoundtrax Records, presents the original soundtrack to HELEN OF TROY, featuring music composed by Joel Goldsmith (STARGATE UNIVERSE, STARGATE ATLANTIS, STARGATE SG-1) for the 2003 television mini-series directed by John Kent Harrison (GAME OF YOUR LIFE, YOU KNOW MY NAME), starring Matthew Marsden (RAMBO, RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION), Rufus Sewell (DARK CITY, A KNIGHT S TALE, THE ILLUSIONIST), James Callis (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA), John Rhys-Davies (RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING), Maryam d Abo (THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS), Stellan Skarsgard (GOOD WILL HUNTING, KING ARTHUR, GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO) and Sienna Guillory (THE TIME MACHINE, RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE, THE HEART OF THE EARTH), as Helen.

Based on THE ILIAD, one of the most epic adventure stories of all time, HELEN OF TROY was originally broadcast in two parts on the USA Network in 2003. Inspired by Homer s classic tale, shot in exotic locations, featuring an international cast and state-of-the-art special effects, HELEN OF TROY was an attempt to depict the legendary battle fought to win the love of the world s most beautiful woman and make it relatable to a modern audience.

HELEN OF TROY tells the story of Helen (Guillory) who is married to Menelaus, King Of Sparta (Callis) but falls madly in love with Paris, Prince Of Troy (Marsden). Together, the lovers flee Sparta for Troy, where Paris father, Priam (Rhys-Davies) offers them safe haven. Menelaus brother, the ruthless Agamemnon (Sewell) uses the excuse to recover Helen for his brother as an opportunity to expand their empire by invading Troy and leads the Spartan army to the shores of the legendary fortified city. After a siege of ten years, the Spartans change their tactics and are able to gain entrance to Troy by hiding within the fabled Trojan Horse, allowing them to strike from within and bring the Trojan War to a tragic close.

Long anticipated by fans of the composer, HELEN OF TROY was one of the biggest projects of Joel Goldsmith s career but did not receive an album release at the time. FreeClyde Records, to be distributed by BuySoundtrax Records, now presents the original television soundtrack to HELEN OF TROY on compact disc for the first time, featuring music composed by Joel Goldsmith for the epic mini-series, produced by the composer and mastered by James Nelson of Digital Outland.

5. UNTOUCHABLES, THE - Music from the 1993 Television Series (Original Soundtrack Recordings-2 CD SET)

Description

Limited Edition of 1000 Units Dragon s Domain Records presents THE UNTOUCHABLES, featuring music composed by Joel Goldsmith (STARGATE UNIVERSE, STARGATE ATLANTIS, STARGATE SG-1) for the 1993 television series developed and produced by Christopher Crowe, starring Tom Amandes as Elliot Ness, John Haymes Newton, David James Elliot, Michael Horse, John Rhys-Davies, Nancy Everhard, Valentino Cimo, Paul Regina and William Forsythe as Al Capone.

THE UNTOUCHABLES was officially based on the classic 1959 TV series that had starred Robert Stack as Federal Agent Eliot Ness, although the influence of Brian De Palma s 1987 feature film version was also very much in evidence. The series premiered on January 11th and lasted two seasons, broadcast on Paramount s UPN television network from 1993 to 1994.

THE UNTOUCHABLES was created and developed by Christopher Crowe, who wrote nearly all of the series episodes. Crowe had been an executive producer on the revived ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS in 1985 and had co-written, with Michael Mann, the screenplay for Mann s LAST OF THE MOHICANS (1992) in addition to writing and directing the mystery thriller WHISPERS IN THE DARK (1992). THE UNTOUCHABLES focused on Ness and his fellow officers attempts to quash the ruthless crime wave of Al Capone in Prohibition-era Chicago; their team is designated untouchable because they couldn t be bribed or intimidated by the mob. Crowe s vision for the series, unlike the original TV show or the De Palma feature film, was to stick to a historically correct portrayal of Chicago in the 1930s. The series was filmed on location in Chicago, with additional expenses incurred for vintage vehicles and complicated stunts and action sequences.

Since his first cinematic composition, a collaboration with then-newcomer Richard Band on the low-budget science fiction thriller, LASERBLAST (1978), Joel scored a number of feature and television films throughout the 1980s and 90s, including the sci-fi series SUPER FORCE (1990), Roland Emmerich s early sci-fi thriller MOON 44 (1990), and Jim Wynorski s gentle family comedy, LITTLE MISS MILLIONS (1993). After THE UNTOUCHABLES, Joel went on to score the TV series HAWKEYE (1994), BAD BLOOD (1994, aka VIPER), Jim Wynorski s VAMPIRELLA (1996), KULL THE CONQUEROR (1997), TV s WITCHBLADE (2000), HELEN OF TROY and several iterations of the STARGATE TV series (1997-2011). He also provided synthesized sound effects for STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE (1979) and composed additional music for STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT (1996). Tragically, Joel passed away at the age of 54 on April 29, 2012, from cancer.

Dragon s Domain Records presents the world premiere release of Joel Goldsmith s music for THE UNTOUCHABLES, mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland. The booklet contains liner notes written by author Randall Larson. THE UNTOUCHABLES is presented on 2 CDs. The first disc contains music from the pilot episode, and thus contains the richer sound of the full orchestra. Music from fourteen selected episodes from Seasons 1 and 2 occupy the second CD, while different versions of the main title theme bookend each disc. Fans of the composer will find much to enjoy on these two discs.

6. Moon 44-Original Soundtrack Recording by Joel Goldsmith

Description

BUYSOUNDTRAX Records presents the original soundtrack to MOON 44, featuring music composed by Joel Goldsmith (STARGATE franchise, HELEN OF TROY, WITCHBLADE, CALL OF DUTY 3) for the 1990 science fiction film directed by Roland Emmerich (STARGATE, INDEPENDENCE DAY, THE PATRIOT) and starring Michael Par (STREETS OF FIRE, EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS, THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT), Malcolm McDowell (A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, TIME AFTER TIME, BLUE THUNDER), Lisa Eichorn, Dean Devlin, Brian Thompson, Stephen Geoffreys, Leon Rippy and Roscoe Lee Browne.

MOON 44 takes place in 2038. Multinational companies have taken control of the universe, constantly fighting each other for control of distant planets where their robots mine the priceless minerals which are now the only source of fuel back on Earth.

The Galactic Mining Corporation is locked in a bitter conflict with a rival corporation, Pyrite, who have begun supplying pirates to attack GMC mining facilities across the Outer Zone of the universe. Moon 44 is one of their most lucrative mining operations and is projected to be the next target of the pirates. The GMC is tipped off that Moon 44 s mining shuttles are being hijacked and their shipments diverted. Their response is to send Felix Stone (Michael Par), an Internal Affairs investigator, to look into the matter.

When he arrives on the old rundown mining station, he discovers that his old girlfriend, Terry (Lisa Eichorn) is also working there. Terry is coordinating an experimental helicopter defense program with the questionable cooperation of the station's commanding officer, Major Lee (Malcolm McDowell) and his brutal sergeant, Sykes (Leon Rippy).

Stone goes undercover to conduct his investigation as part of a group of Company prisoners who have been sent to Moon 44 to participate in Terry's program as pilots. The prisoners, led by Jake (Brian Thompson), Moose (John March) and Scooter (Jochen Nickel), have volunteered for the program to shorten their sentences.

The reason for Terry s defense program is the external atmosphere on Moon 44, which is horrendous. Hurricane force winds constantly race through rain-swept canyons, across a foggy surface mostly devoid of daylight, making conventional flying impossible. The prisoners, unaware that most of the pilots who volunteered before them are dead or maimed, are introduced to their co-pilots, a group of station-bound navigators. For the program to succeed, the pilots must work together with the navigators to overcome the flight problems that come with the harsh weather on the surface. Of course, the prisoners and the brainy young navigators clash instantly.

Convinced that the ongoing theft of the station's mining shuttles is an inside job, Stone sets a trap to try and uncover the identity of the collaborator and Staff Sergeant Sykes walks right into it. In the ensuing struggle, Major Lee intervenes to save Stone's life. His subsequent behavior, though, convinces Stone that Lee is the one ultimately responsible. Believing he has enough information to close his case, Stone is about to return to GMC Headquarters to file his report when the mining station is suddenly attacked.

Unaware that Major Lee has been given orders to launch all the mining shuttles and save Moon 44 s precious cargo if the station is attacked, Stone finds himself fighting a war on two fronts. The station must be defended against Pyrite s drone fighters and Stone must somehow stop Lee from launching all the mining shuttles or everyone will be trapped on the station.

The score for MOON 44 was composed by Joel Goldsmith and was his first major orchestral score for a film, foreshadowing his later work on science fiction projects such as STARGATE SG-1 and STARGATE: ATLANTIS The score was performed by the Graunke Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Christopher L. St
