Description

The Worm Box is a working composter with a not-so-sleek look. It will not have the legs and the lid of more expensive composters but you can easily supply these. Each tray is 16 x 16 x 4 and is made of sturdy US food-grade plastic that will process 784 cubic inches of working compost. This space will accommodate up to 5,000 active worms when using two trays. (We recommend starting with a half pound of red wiggler worms as happy worms multiply quickly.) Simply purchase 2 additional trays from Amazon and you double the volume. Worms work best with a flat lid that comes in contact with the bedding materials and it allows space for heat and gas to escape. The use of a spigot attached to the reservoir on many other models is mostly cosmetic. On the Worm Box we have used simple plumbing fixtures that will drain leachate and supply much-needed air to the worms. The air will help to speed the composting process. The operating system includes all the features listed in composters of twice the price. Best of all, the worms are not fussy about the outer looks of the composter they do their best work in the dark!
