Description

English Marigold flower has a long history as both an ornamental garden plant and as an herb. When dried, the petals of Calendula flowers provide a culinary substitute for saffron. Once established, Calendula does not need regular watering; for the best blooms it should not be over-watered. To keep the plant bushy and neat, occasionally pinch off the blooms. If deadheaded regularly, it will produce profuse blossoms all season long; in hotter regions, it may stop blooming in the heat of summer and begin again in fall.

The hardy pot marigold, calendula works well in the vegetable garden or alongside vegetables in raised beds or containers. The petals can be used as a lively addition to salads.

Bees and other pollinators will visit for the nectar and pollen of this self seeder. It is a hardy annual so will pop up year after year on most soils, but prefers well-drained, poor or average soil. plant prefers cool temperatures, will appreciate filtered shade.
