Just like humans, pets benefit from good oral hygiene. Remember that brushing teeth is not a natural action for your pets. Please consider the following steps before introducing any toothbrush to your pet. The goal should be for your pet to believe they are receiving a treat while you are actually brushing their teeth. This is done through a series of small baby steps. Start off by applying a pet toothpaste onto your finger and feeding it to your pet as a treat for a couple of days. Give lots of positive affection and praise. Next, apply the toothpaste onto the toothbrush and start offering the paste as a treat. You should not try to brush your pet's teeth at this time. After a few days, you should be ready to start brushing one tooth one day a time. Once they are comfortable with the brushing action, you may brush all of their teeth in one sitting. Try focusing on the gum line. If at any point you meet any negative resistance from your pet, then go back to the previous step for a longer period.
