It seems that every so often there is a trial of the century, usually involving celebrities or a crime that is particularly heinous. The 1990s had the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, a crime which football super-star O.J. Simpson was tried and ultimately found not guilty in the criminal court, (although he was later found to be responsible for the deaths in a civil trial and ordered to pay millions of dollars to the families of the victims.) One of the most famous of the well-publicized crimes was the murder of a well-known and respected cardiologist, as well as the author of The Complete Scarsdale Medical Diet, who was shot to death by an almost 70-year-old headmistress of an upscale Washington, D.C. elite private boarding school for girls.
