Description

A triple-feature of drama, crime and convicts. Featuring: Elmer Gantry, Convicts and Birdman of Alcatraz.

Elmer Gantry (1960, Not Rated, 147 minutes): Traveling Salesman Elmer Gantry (Burt Lancaster) stumbles into a revival meeting and discovers that he can hustle money in a tent-show as easily as in a saloon with Sister Sharon Falconer (Jean Simmons). He delivers demon-bashing oratories when old flame (Shirley Jones) re-appears and Gantry is forced to confront demons of a more worldly order.

Convicts (1991, Not Rated, 93 minutes): In 1902 Texas, 13-year-old Horace goes to work on old Soll's farm to earn enough money to buy a headstone for his father's grave. Unfortunately for Horace, Soll's senility, ill health, and obsession with the convict labor he uses to work the farm, make it unlikely that Horace will ever be paid the $12.50 Soll owes him for 6 months work.

Birdman of Alcatraz (1962, Not Rated, 149 minutes): How does bitter convict Robert Stroud (Burt Lancaster) cope with a lifetime of solitary confinement? The answer, in a sense, comes from above in the form of a feeble sparrow he finds in the isolation yard.
