Whether you're a beginner or a professional wood turner, live centers have become a very useful and in all honesty a very necessary lathe accessory when turning between centers. Live centers fit directly into your lathe tailstock and rotates as your stock piece rotates. This type of action is great for turning because it keeps your wood from burning, yet it holds your stock in place. The live center allows for greater clamping pressures and much better control while still retaining their incredibly smooth rotation.
It is equipped with bearings that allow it rotate at low or high lathe speeds which allows the center to be used on projects as small as pens or as large as pepper mills. The tip or live center cone is at a common 60 degree angle and measures 1-9/32" in diameter.
This allows it to fit inside of pre-bored out holes that are smaller then the cone diameter. Works very well on projects like spindles, dowels, pepper mills and much much more.
ade from heavy duty steel for years of service. Available in MT1 and MT2 sizes which are both sold separately. Please check your lathes opening (Morse Taper) size. Morse Taper sizes vary from lathe to lathe. While the Morse Taper 2 size is more common, many of the smaller lathes today use the MT1 size. Please refer to your lathe owners manual for detailed information about your lathe.
