Description

A unique set of two wands, hand crafted from Irish bog oak and bog yew, then oiled to bring out the natural color of the ancient woods. The two wands are connected through their cores, the bog oak wand has a bog yew core and the bog yew wand has a bog oak core. The core was made from the same branch as its matching wand. The length is 13 inches. Your wands will be finished after purchase. You can choose your own length (up to 13 inches), just message me after purchase. If you do not select a size, i will choose one that best suits the individual pieces of wood. Greater than 13 inches is possible, but there will be an additional charge. My bog yew wands are very limited, as when I run out of bog yew I may never be able to find enough to make wands again. Both wands are made from ancient bog oak and bog yew taken from the midlands of Ireland. The wood is thousands of years old, and in purchasing this pair of beautiful wands, you will have your very own piece of Irish history. Bog oak is a rare timber which is excavated from deep underground, usually as a by-product of turf cutting, or when bogland is drained for agricultural use. The wood varies in age, usually ranging between 2,000 and 6,000 years old. The wood has been preserved due to the unique conditions of the Turf bogs, which waterlog the wood and keep it free from oxygen and sunlight which would cause it to decay. The chemistry of the Bog also reacts with the wood and transforms its colour, usually jet black, but occasionally a very dark brown. Bog Yew is an extremely rare timber, even rarer than bog oak, and this is the first time in eight years of wandmaking that I've had enough to make wands. It is also thousands of years old, preserved in the same way as bog oak, but does not turn black like the oak, instead turning a dark brown with hints of red.
