After the battle, she had to be towed by the French frigate Thmis and undergo major repairs in Cadiz. She returned to fight in the Peninsular War, capturing many French ships. Description

DiceTower News: "Best Board Game of the Month May 2016" Tech Raptor: "An epic feeling game that does not require an epic ruleset" ---- Launch your fleet, capture ports, and wage war in the epic board game adventure for 2-5 players. In Empires at Sea, play as one of five nations and work to amass the largest empire at the end of 15 rounds of play. During each round, History will give benefits or setbacks to each nation, while the Weather limits (and occasionally improves) movement across a map of the Atlantic from the 1800s. Selected as a KickStarter Staff Pick during our launch and Project We Love shortly after, Empires at Sea is a strategy board game built around the golden age of piracy and huge sailing ships of the 18th century. It brings in elements of "serious" strategy games, but is extremely easy to learn and really, really fun to play. The basic premise of Empires at Sea is to establish an empire. At sea. Each player starts with a port on the Atlantic and a small ship, each port produces resources and resources are used to purchase ships or advancements (for example: stronger cannons, thicker hulls). Once you've established your fleet, you can use it to attack your enemies, raid Pirate's Bay, or continue to grow your Empire. At the end of play, the captain with the most Empire Points wins. The game is tightly tied to the historical events of the 1700 and 1800s. A History Card will give benefits/setbacks to different nations each round. A Weather Card will dictate which way the winds will blow and how your ships will be able to move across the map. Both the two-player and three-plus-player maps are based on actual maps drawn during the period. The ships are modeled off of actual ships of the time. Piracy also plays a large role in Empires at Sea. Each round, players commit gold to a bribe, and whoever bribes the most can control the pirate and wreak havoc on their enemies. The early game is expansion and industry, the end game is war.

Feature

One 1/1000 scale model
Special base with game stats

Description

East Indiamen were large merchant ships, sailing under the flag or major European trading powers on behalf of the powerful East India companies, trading and enriching them. While their main purpose was to transport goods and passengers, they were often well-armed to defend themselves, but they were normally not very fast. The crew and number of guns was widely variable, depending on the kind of service the ship was doing.

Originally named "Duc de Duras", this ship was loaned by the French Crown to the newborn American Continental Navy, to be placed under the command of John Paul Jones; she was renamed "Bonhomme Richard", in honor of Benjamin Franklin. During her cruise against the British, in the Battle of Flamborough Head, the Bonhomme Richard met her destiny fighting gloriously against the British Frigate HMS Serapis. Even if his ship was seriously damaged, John Paul Jones won the battle, but in the end lost his ship, which sunk in the aftermath of the battle.

This ship pack can also be used to represent another version of the "Bonhomme Richard 1779" with an alternative, possible armament.

While their main purpose was to transport goods and passengers, they were often well-armed to defend themselves, but they were normally not very fast. The crew and number of guns was widely variable, depending on the kind of service the ship was doing.

The Bertin was an East Indiaman used for long-distance trading during the eighteenth century. She was later converted into a ship of the line, taking advantage of her design, already suitable for a warship. When, in 1770, she was commissioned into the French Marine Royale, under King Louis XVI, her armament was doubled - Bertin became a fourth rate with 56 guns and a crew of more than 300 men.

This ship pack can also be used to represent the French ex-merchant ship "Berryer 1759(1770)".

The San Juan Nepomuceno was a Spanish ship of the line built in 1765 in Guarnizo in Cantabria, on design of Francisco Gautier, along with other similar ships. She was used for many years for many different missions, many of them in the Caribbean. In 1793 she fought against Revolutionary France, especially in the occupation of Toulon. In the Battle of Trafalgar, she achieved glory under commander Don Cosme Damian Churruca and provided an incredible example of Spanish heroism, fighting British ships after the loss of over 400 officers and crewmen.
